In a press release celebrating its one year anniversary, Tidal says it has amassed 3 million subscribers, up from 900,000 last June. Of those 3 million subscribers, 1.35 million are paying for Tidal’s $19.99 Hi-Fi offering, according to Billboard. The growth of the streaming service has far surpassed all expectations, as the streaming service has seemingly thrived thanks to exclusive releases from the likes of Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Kanye West, all of whom have ownership stakes in the company.

THE GROWTH OF THE STREAMING SERVICE HAS SURPASSED ALL EXPECTATIONS

Tidal has grown both its library of songs (up to 40 million) and its ownership group over the last year, adding Lil Wayne, TIP, Indochine, and Damian Marley to the mix bringing its total group of artist-owners up to 20. Despite a multitude of errors and mishaps from the leak of Rihanna’s album ANTI, the confusing and delayed release of Kanye’s latest project, The Life of Pablo —which was streamed 250 million times in the first 10 days — and streaming issues with West’s Yeezy Season 3 show which still netted 23 million viewers, Tidal has seemingly managed to keep the train moving in the right direction.

2015 was a turbulent year to say the least for the streaming service. But with a growing user base and upcoming albums from artist-owners including Beyoncé and Kanye West that could cause an influx of subscribers, Tidal’s fortunes are looking far better than they did just six months ago.
